Haleakala is perhaps the most famous landmark on Maui. Towering 10,000 feet above the sea, its summit offers breathtaking views of the entire state. Standing at the summit, you might feel as if you are on another planet. The red, cratered landscape reminds one of Mars or the Moon. The adventurous runner or hiker who climbs over the rim into the crater will be rewarded with what could be the most spectacular environment on the earth.
