Description
Just across the street from Ala Moana Shopping Center, this large recreational area is enjoyed by many thousands of people, as is evident by the constant crowds. There is an excellent swimming area here, as well as some of the best surf on the south shore. This run can be combined with the Kapiolani Park/Diamond Head runs for a long tour of Waikiki.

Distance
1, 2, and 3 miles. Or, combine with Kapiolani Park/Diamond Head for a longer tour or Waikiki.

Environment
Flat, hard (asphalt/concrete) surface. You can also run on the grass or beach for a low-impact workout. Water and restrooms are available at the park. There is a concession stand as well.

To Get There From Honolulu
The park is on Ala Moana Blvd., just ewa of the Honolulu Boat Harbor. Parking is available in the park or along Ala Moana Boulevard (weekends only).

Suggested Route
There is a 1 mile paved trail around the "Magic Island" peninsula, or a 2 mile loop around the perimeter of the park between Ala Moana Blvd. and the park access road. These can be combined for a nice 3 mile loop. Watch out for traffic when crossing the road from Magic Island to the main body of the park.

Notes
Because of the crowds, parking can be hard to find here. To be safe, stay out of the park after dark. Follow up your run with a quick swim and some sun on the beach.

There are several races that incorporate Ala Moana Park in their routes. Most notably are the Hard Rock Cafe 10K, which finishes there, and the Honolulu Marathon, which runs beside the park on Ala Moana Blvd.
